ART 1A and 1B
Art 1B is the second trimester, part two, of Art 1A. This course continues the study and application of the principles of design to studio art. The studio emphasis in Art 1B is on design, printmaking, and three dimensional projects. Students are instructed in art historty, aesthetics, and art criticism as it relates to their projects. All students are required to produce a portfolio and research workbook as well.
*Art fee due 8/18. $20.00 fee includes use of most expendable and permanent supplies. Students need to bring a pencil, eraser, notebook paper, ruler, and scissors to class.
Prerequisite: Art 1A
Painting/Drawing 1and 2
Painting is a one trimester course exploring two dimensional media, diverse painting and advanced drawing techniques, media, and subject matter. Students will produce advance level paintings while continuing to explore a variety of applications. Each student will create and maintain an advanced portfolio.
Art fee: $25.00 (Painting ) and $20.00 (Drawing 1 and 2) fees due the first week of the trimester.

Suggested Supplies for Painting and Drawing classes: permanent and water soluable fine tip color markers, pastels-24 color set,prismacolors, water soluable oil pastels 24 color set
Painting only: water color set (cake or tube), acrylic set, assortment of water color and acrylic brushes for (washes to fine detail), 4 assorted canvas boards and stretched canvas,oil paint sticks or sets w/ cleaners, sketchbook, and a pad of watercolor papers.
Drawing only- charcoal and assorted drawing pencils including ebony, erasers, and blenders, assortment of drawing papers 9"x12"-12 "x18", sketchbook, (canvas boards,oil paint sticks or sets w/ cleaners and a pad of watercolor papers.
Prerequisite: Art 1A and 1B

AP/IB ART
IB and AP students work rigorously at a college level to create a portfolio of artworks reflecting growth over time. The IB student will declare a focus while the AP student will establish a concentration in theme. All students will maintain a research workbook which should reflect their ideologies, exploration of studio art, and art/ gallery critiques.
Student artwork is evaluated for the purpose of receiving college credit.
AP students submit their portfolios (24 slides and 5 matted pieces) and for review to the College Board during the 3rd trimester.

IB students have a group art show during the first week in April at the Pat May Center; their work is evaluated by an on-site examiner for college credit.

There are three scheduled field trips to the Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter, and Ft. Worth Modern this year, with a fourth Saturaday trip to the Dallas Museum and Nasher. Bell High School is one of three high schools in the metroplex invited to participate in the Artworking program at the Kimbell Museum. We are grateful to Mr. Bannister and the H. E. B. school district to have their continued support which allows us to have this valuable and unique experience! the following dates have been approved: October 19, November 9, and December 7. We will leave promptly by 9:15 from the Pleasentview bus circle and return to campus by 2 P.m. on these dates. Bring 5-10 for lunch at Kincaid's in Ft. Worth and don't forget your parent permission forms-signed!

The IB Spring Art Show and Reception will be held at the Pat May Center in April. Five senior IB art students will install and exhibit their artwork. HL-Ysef Ansari, Arianne Couch,Jasmine Cortes, Andrew Ramirez, and SL-Kelly McNAmee.These sneior IB art students will complete their extensive judge's interview and individual art installation at this time. All candidates combined will have approximately 100 artworks on display. Thanks to all-for the ongoing support from parents,the district IB co-ordinators, and the Pat May staff.
The following senior AP students have been accepted into the rigorous AP art program and will submit their extensive portfolios in May, 2013:Hunter sligar, Min Ho Lee, Alex Navares, Angel Pena, Megan Mayo, and Jasmine Tranquilino.

Required updated dates for AP students :
Complete photographing portfolios - May 5,2013
[12 works photographed the last week of each Fall and Winter Trimesters; final portfolio photographed by mid April. Individual sessions will be pre arranged, the student must attend scheduled sessions or run the risk of losing thier weighted credit and not submitting their portfoilio for review]

Complete matting 5 quality pieces and writing artist statements- May 5th

RWB- required ( 1 per year included w/ fee)
24 color prismacolor set
gouache and /or watercolor set
acrylic paint set w/ assortment of brushes (sm. to lg.)
sm.pad water color paper
4'x8' surface for painting (old door, cement board, sheetrock, refrigerator box--whatever you can find!
