Unit 2 Topic:  Assorted Short Fiction and Poe

This six-weeks the focus will be on the elements of short fiction, including plot, conflict, and non-linear plot development such as flashbacks.  The students will read from the collected works of Poe and study his style; the focus will be on analyzing how Poe develops mood and theme through his specific stylistic choices including point of view, diction, repetition, and figurative language.

Outside Reading:

GT students are expected to read a minimum of 4 stories in the Poe collection and 2 poems.  The outside reading assignment will be a 1-pager project in which the students creatively represent one of their favorite stories in the collection.  The assignment will be issued at the beginning of the six-weeks.
