KEYS Honors Mr. Burns
A special graduation ceremony was held with district administrators, former KEYS principals, staff, teachers, and friends to honor a very special person. Mr. Burns, who served KEYS and its students for the past 19 years, "graduated" (retired) from KEYS, last Friday, October 3, 2014.
Mr. Burns, who holds a degree in History, is now teaching History at TCC, as well as taking classes himself. He will also pend some time working with students in AEP. Previously, he had been tutoring KEYS students needing help with math since he started volunteering in 1995! Mr. Burns would log in an average of 1,200 hours of volunteering per year!
As part of the ceremony, district administrators addressed Mr. Burns; speaking of his invaluable service to KEYS. After receiving his diploma, several teachers and friends gave their heartfelt testimonials to acknowledge and "thank" him for the help, motivation, and support he unselfishly offered to students, teachers, and administrators.
Lastly, Mr. Burns received various gifts and awards including an "Award of Excellence" silver plate, a signed graduation cap, a mosaic plaque with the word "Charge!" on it (he would rally the "Charge!" at the beginning of each school year), a special poem penned by a former KEYS English teacher, Ms. Pat Graham, and honored with a $600 scholarship in his name (the "Dave Burns Scholarship") to be presented to a deserving graduating KEYS student in May 2015.
Mr. Burns, "Thank You!"
