Welcome to Nurse Hesse's Home Page!

Welcome back, students and family of West Hurst Elementary! My name is Nurse Mettie Hesse and I am very excited and proud to be a member of the WHE family. This is my second year at West Hurst Elementary and my door is open any time you need to come and see me :).

As we progress through the school year, please keep in mind that schools are often a place a child will pass on an illness, infection, etc. Please keep your child home for the following reasons:

1. A fever of 100 degrees or more. It is very strongly encouraged that they not return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours, WITHOUT fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin. Please do not give your child with a fever Tylenol/Motrin and then send them to school. They will be sent home.

2. A rash of unknown origin.

3. Active, live head lice.

4. Crusting or thick, yellow mucus from the eye(s) accompanied by redness of the eye itself.

5. Ringworm of the scalp (characterized by a loss of hair in the affected area). Please note that ringworm on the body will need to be covered by a band-aid at all times while the child is at school.

6. Vomiting and/or diarrhea of unknown origin.
