When 38 students and their chaperones arrive at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Wednesday morning, it will be the beginning of a whirlwind visit of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD and surrounding communities that will continue until the students leave the following Monday.
The students are from several schools in Yichang Jin Dongfang, in the Hubei region of China. HEB ISD has developed a relationship with these schools over the years. HEB ISD began offering Mandarin Chinese to seventh grade students at Central Junior High School in 2007 through its International Business Initiative (IBI). The students who began the program in 2007 now attend LD Bell High School. It has always been a goal of IBI to create a school partnership. This is the first student visit through this partnership.
The Yichang students will be paired with an HEB student who attends Central Junior High School or LD Bell High School and who has taken Mandarin Chinese. The Yichang students will stay with their host families in HEB. There will be three adult chaperones from Yichang and they will also stay with a host family.
The group will fly in from Washington, DC, where they will have been for several days.
