As part of its continuing efforts to provide HEB ISD students with a distinct advantage as they prepare for competing in the global marketplace, the Board of Trustees approved the expansion of Schools of Choice programs, which took effect during the 2007-2008 school year.

Central Junior High School and Trinity High School were selected to offer the Asian Languages Program, offering Mandarin Chinese and Hindi. HEB ISD will be only the second school district in Texas to offer Hindi.

Today, China and India are powerful players in the global economy, and as their influence in world trade increases, our students will need to compete with them, for access to the best schools and the best jobs.

One way to get an edge over the competition is to learn a second language. Students in other countries must learn English and many times a third language, in addition to their own.
