1st Grade Core Knowledge Unit 3 Color Overview · The student will review warm and cool colors: warm (red, yellow, orange), cool (blue, green, purple). · The student will develop an understanding of the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and that these colors can be combined to create secondary colors (orange, green, purple). · The student will develop and understanding of how to create secondary colors (blue + yellow = green, red + blue = purple, red + yellow = orange). · The student will develop an understanding of how to create black ( a mixture of all three primary colors). · The student will develop an understanding of neutral colors: brown, black, gray and white. · The student will describe, analyze and interpret the use of color in artworks. · The student will utilize a variety of materials to create color in artworks. · The student will discuss the selected works of art focusing on what the paintings mean and their use of color. Compare how the colors used in each painting make you feel. 2nd Grade Core Knowledge Unit 3 Abstract Art Overview · The student will discuss artworks that have been created in an abstract style. Discuss what the artist started with and see the progression of how they broke down the subject matter and simplified it. · The student will understand the concepts of abstract art and realistic art. · The student will compare and contrast works of art that are abstract and realistic. · The student will create an artwork that is abstract, starting with something and simplifying it into minimal lines, shapes and colors. 3rd Grade Unit 3 Byzantine -We are gaining and understanding of Byzantine Icons and how they tell a story with a picture. -I can paint responsibly. -I can cut the Gothic arch shape. -I can make an image that fills the space. -I will put my name and teachers name on the back of my work -I will fill out my evaluation form on my project -I will finish my sketchbook questions on this project.

4th grade Unit 3 China -We are gaining and understanding of Chinese art and how they use calligraphy and ceramics. -I can draw the Chinese Character for my birth year in the traditional martial arts stance. -I can use paint responsibly and demonstrate control of my brush. -I can demonstrate my skills in one of 3 types of clay construction -I can make a clay vessel. -I can engrave a drawing on my vessel. -I will I will put my name and teachers name on the back of my work -I will fill out my evaluation form on my project -I will finish my sketchbook questions on this project.
 
5th Grade Core Knowledge Unit 3 Renaissance Art · The students will become familiar with the art of the European Renaissance. · The students will become familiar with the leaders of the Italian Renaissance, Botticelli, Donatello, da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael . · The students will become familiar with the leaders of the Northern Renaissance Bruegel, Durer and Van Eyck. · The students will become familiar with the Renaissance Core Knowledge Images. Sandro Botticelli, the Birth of Venus Leonardo da Vinci, The Proportions of Man, Mona Lisa, The Last Supper Michelangelo, Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, David, Saint Peter's Basilica Raphael, The Marriage of the Virgin and examples of his Madonnas Donatello, Saint George Filippo Brunelleschi, The Florence Cathedral Pieter Bruegel, Peasant Wedding Albrecht Durer, Self Portrait Jan van Eyck, Giovanni Arnolfini and His Wife · The students will become familiar with the different types of paint used during the Renaissance such as tempera, oil, and fresco. · The students will become familiar with the advancements made in creating illusions such as atmospheric perspective, tormpli, and curriscuro. · The students will become familiar with the advancements in sculpture made during the Renaissance and recognize the connection to the art of the Classical period. · The student will recognize that the scientific study of anatomy helped bring about the more accurate depiction of the human form. · The students will learn correct human proportion, an adult is 8 heads tall, eyes ½ of the face nose 1/4 of the face, mouth 1/8.

6th Grade Core Knowledge Unit 3 Renaissance Art · The student will know that the Renaissance period in art was between the Gothic Period and the Baroque Period and it was a return to the concepts of idealism found in Classical art. · The student will recognize the Renaissance Core Knowledge Images Raphael, The School of Athens Michelangelo, David · The student will review human proportion in portraits. · The student will review linear perspective. · The students will recognize that art like fashion has different styles and those styles change over time, sometimes repeating elements from the past and some times going completely in the opposite direction.  6th Grade Unit 3 Renaissance Perspective -We are gaining and understanding Perspective of and how things appear to get smaller as they go back in space. -I can draw objects in 1-point perspective -I can draw in 2-point perspective. -I can create a drawing with different types of perspective. -I can fit correctly proportioned people into my perspective works. -I can demonstrate skill with a ruler. -I can demonstrate skill with shading. - I will put my name and teachers name on the back of my work -I will fill out my evaluation form on my project
