1st Grade Core Knowledge Unit 1 Line Overview

-The student will use different types of lines in an artwork: Straight, zigzag, curved, wavy, spiral, thick and thin.
-The student will create artworks using a variety of drawing media to create line, such as pencil, charcoal, markers, pastels, oil pastels etc.

1st Grade Unit One Line

-I will make a line drawing of a leaf including its veins then trace the lines in glue

-I will paint the inside of the leaf in warm colors

-I will draw 3 different types of lines and trace them in glue

-I will make a line print with my 3 glued lines

-I will put my name and teachers name on the back of my work



2nd Grade Core Knowledge Unit 1 Line Overview

The student will review how lines can be actual or implied. They can be 2D or 3D. They can show feeling, motion, texture and pattern.
-The student will look for different types of line in the art room and in artworks.
-The student will discuss the ways line can vary such as: wavy, straight, thick, thin, curved, diagonal, vertical, and horizontal.
-The student will create an artwork that uses a variety of lines.

3rd Grade Core Knowledge Unit 1 Space Overview

-The student will discuss what the element of space is and how artists use space in artworks.
-The student will discuss the following as they relate to space in selected artworks: two dimensional vs. three dimensional space, illusion of depth, foreground, middle ground, background, figure/ ground and positive vs. negative space.
-The student will discuss how space can create emphasis, balance, proportion and unity in selected artworks.
-The student will discuss how color choice can affect figure/ground. Complementary colors help to create more of a figure/ground effect, while analogous colors do not.
-The student will create an artwork that creates an illusion of depth by showing foreground, background and middle ground.

-The students will gain an understanding that art form different time periods have a distinct look, or style.
-The students will be exposed to the idea that art reflects the thoughts and beliefs of time in which it is created.

4th Grade Unit One Middle Ages

-I will make an image that fits well into a gothic arched window with a vertical format

-I will un-color all of the interiors of shapes and leave the out lines black on Scratch Lite paper to make it look like a stained glass window.

-The students will learn that the Classical Period refers to the time of the Greek and Roman Empires.

-I will use subtractive and additive clay techniques to create a relief for the Classical Era frieze for the building my class voted to decorate
