The focus in special education this year is to be an intervention for students, and not to replace the regular education that the students receive in the classroom each day.  In Math, we are usng the SRA Connecting Math Series, the Moving with Math series, and many hands-on manipulatives, as well as activities designed for the Smartboard and the IPAD. We also focus on functional skills such as money, time, measuring, and using a calculator and banking.  In Science, we are learning about animal categories, volcanos/earthquakes, weather, dinosaurs, and the scientific process.  We just went on a wonderful trip to the Ross Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Our days are full, and we are so fortunate to have such a wealth of information and materials to use as we search for new and better ways to reach all students and help them learn. Please contact me if you have any questions about the curriculum, IEPs, or individual assignments.

Our class is working with two new reading programs this year. We have the SIPPS program that is designed to help students with reading difficulties or dyslexia. We also have a new, Corrective Reading program which addresses decoding and comprehension problems. We will be using all this new material this year to help the students become more fluent readers!
