HEB Sports Hall of Fame Inductee 2013

M.A. Dodson

Graduated from Malakoff High School. He was recruited by Athens High School to play on the six man football team. This was before the University Interscholastic League of Texas had rules against recruiting. Started Coaching Pee Wee Baseball and Football in the early 1950's. He and his wife would use their two cars to transport the boys to Fort Worth from Hurst to play in the only leagues available. Practiced with the boys two days a week and took them to league play all day on Saturdays. Spent 45 years as a second father to hundreds of young boys teaching them about sports and life because he cared. Organized and started the first L.D. Bell Sports Booster Club. Was the first president and volunteered for many years after. Received an Autographed Football for being named Bell's Number One Fan. Was honored to be the first to choose and purchase lifetime seats at the New Pennington Field. Wore a hard hat and went into the stadium before completion and selected his season ticket seats.
