Using a Calendar page

Example of Calendar webpageThe easiest way to meet the Calendar/Events requirement for your classroom website is to set your Calendar page to automatically pull events from your school's school-wide calendar.

 

How to link your calendar page to your school's calendar page

  1. While logged in to School Center, open your Calendar page. Make sure that the Edit toolbar is shown.
  2. Click "Share Data" on the Edit toolbar at the top of the page.
  3. In the new window that appears, click on the Pull Data tab. A short list of levels of websites should appear.
  4. Click on your school's name. The list should change to show some of the pages that are part of your school's site.
  5. Check the box next to your school's calendar page. If your school calendar uses categories, you can uncheck the boxes next to categories of events that you don't want to show on your Calendar page
  6. Click the Done button to save your choices.

To add events from the District-wide calendar, you will follow almost exactly the same steps with a few changes:

  • In Step 4, Instead of clicking on the name of your school, you will click on the word "Schools".  The list should change.  Click on "District Departments", and the list will change again.
  • In Step 5, you will instead check the box next to the District Calendar.  This will automatically check the boxes next to all of the Categories listed underneath "District Calendar".  You may want to go through this list and uncheck the categories that clearly don't apply to your classroom.  For example, the Beginning and End of Grading Period categories are probably good to have, but if you're an elementary school teacher, you might uncheck the "High School" category.

Note: Even if your school calendar automatically pulls events from the District Calendar, your personal calendar won't pull the District Calendar's events through the School calendar.  (Yes, it's complicated) Because of this, you'll probably want to set your calendar to link to both the School Calendar and the District Calendar.

 

How to add events

If you'd like, you can also add individual events to your calendar page.

  1. Log in and open your calendar page. Make sure that the Edit toolbar is shown.
  2. Click New Event on the Edit toolbar.
  3. In the new window that appears:
    • Change the Date to be the date of the event.
    • Fill in the Title box with the title of the event.
    • Fill in the Text box with any extra details (when the details are very brief, it can be better to put them in the Title box and leave the Text box empty)
  4. Click the Done button when you are finished -- this will save your new event and close the popup window.

If you are posting lots of events, you may want to use the Categories feature to color-code different types of events, or the Import feature to import events from an Excel spreadsheet. Contact the Assistant Webmaster for more information.

 

How to edit and delete events

Note: you can't delete events that are automatically being shown because your calendar is linked to another calendar. To remove those events, you must change the settings for what categories you pull from the calendars you are linked to.

  1. Log in and open your calendar page. Make sure that the Edit toolbar is shown.
  2. Open a time period on the calendar that includes the event you want to edit or delete.
  3. Hover over the title of the event you want to edit or delete.
  4. Click on the square Pencil iconthat appears.
    • If you want to delete the event, click Delete Event. The event should be deleted.
    • If you want to edit the event, click Edit Event. In the new window that appears, change the Date, Title, and Text as necessary, then click the Done button to save your changes.
