Georgeann Gallian

Georgeann Gallian
Principal, Hurst Hills Elementary School
October 18, 1946 - February 4, 2009

Georgeann joined the HEB ISD in August 1994 as Assistant Principal of Hurst Hills Elementary. She became Principal in January 2001.

Georgeann was a lifelong advocate for children. She was active in the Northeast Tarrant Branch of the American Association of University Women, whose mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. She performed her most recent activities as an officer from 2006‐2008.

Her love of children was also evident during her membership on the HEB ISD Board of Trustees from April 1985 to May 1994. She completed her board responsibilities just three months before she was appointed Assistant Principal to Hurst Hills.

She was also a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Hurst, where she served as a teacher at their Day School in the 1970s and was Director in the early 1980s.

A Houston native, she was born Georgeann Mauk and graduated from Waltrip High School in 1965. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education in 1969. She received her Master of Education from the University of North Texas in 1994.

A self described self starter who said she was happiest "when I am busy," Georgeann demonstrated her belief in the ability of all children when she wrote an essay in her 1994 application to the district:

"Expectations make the difference. A student quickly realizes what teacher and parental expectations are, and those expectations become his own. Too many times educators and parents give up. As educators, we must realize that no student wants to fail. All students want to learn and be successful. Our job is to expect nothing less."
