Over 500 students, staff members, and administrators Joy Busey, Terri Iles, and Barbara Richardson from the HEB central office joined Mr. Hurbough, Ms. Garcia, Ms. Roaten, Dr. Einstein and Dolores to enjoy reading together during a school-wide reading celebration at Shady Oaks on November 16. The festive occasion was held in honor of Children's Book Week, which has been sponsored by the Children's Book Council each year since 1919! According to its organizer, Frederic Melcher, it “brings us together to talk about books and reading and, out of our knowledge and love of books, puts children’s reading squarely before the whole community and, community by community, across the whole nation. For a great nation is a reading nation.” This is a special year for Children's Book Week, because it will move to May in 2008, so we will have the fun of celebrating it twice in one school year! This year's theme is "Rise up Reading!" For more information, go to www.cbcbooks.org.
