Director of Communications
Judy is the Director of Communications for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. She oversees public relations and project management activities for the district in the areas of media relations, community relations, employee relations, crisis communications, event planning, marketing, and branding.
Judy has been with HEB ISD since 2001 and came to the district after a 13-year career in the tourism industry, working with the cities of Arlington and Corpus Christi to attract visitors and conventions to spur economic development. Her tourism career led to travels around the world to promote Texas tourism. Before beginning her career in public relations, Judy was a newspaper reporter in Corpus Christi.
The HEB ISD Communications Department has won print, video, Web, photography, electronic, and partnership awards from numerous state, national, and international associations, includng the Lone Star Award from the Texas Public Relations Association. This award is the highest recognition a Texas company can receive for its public relations practices. Previous recipients include Southwest Airlines, Dell Computer Corporation, and Valero Energy Corporation.
Judy is a member of HEB Economic Development Foundation and Rotary Club of HEB. She works closely with the HEB Council of PTAs, HEB Chamber of Commerce, and HEB ISD Education Foundation. She is a graduate of Leadership HEB and Leadership Arlington. She is a former board member of Texas Association for Partners in Education, Texas Public Relations Association, and she was the 2008 and 2009 Chair of the Tarrant County Youth Collaboration Board of Directors. She also belongs to the National School Public Relations Association and Texas School Public Relations Association.
Judy has a master's degree in media studies from Texas Christian University and a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Southwest Texas State University. While in college, she wrote for the university newspaper and was a reporter and photographer for the campus television station. She was also news director for the university radio station, supervising a staff of student reporters. Before graduation, she did her student teaching at LBJ High School in Austin, becoming certified to teach secondary journalism and speech communication.
A Corpus Christi native, Judy is married to Omar, an administrator with Fort Worth ISD. They have one son.
