The Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD Communications Department won Silver, Gold, and Best of Category awards for 2010 projects in the recent Texas School PR Association (TSPRA) Star Awards competition. Each year, districts across the state submit hundreds of entries in 44 print, electronic, and campaign categories.
The department won 11 awards in eight print and electronic categories. The department's big winner at the awards banquet was Webmaster Carolyn Marcantel, who won a Best of Category gold medal in the "Advertisement -- Other" category for her creation of the "Are you my teacher?" display banners. The Human Resources Department uses the banners for teacher recruitment.
Star Awards provide recognition for outstanding education communications projects of TSPRA members. Independent, impartial judges evaluate each piece of work and each project based on set criteria, then award Silver and Gold Star Awards, as well as Best of Category, to those that qualify. Not all entries receive an award.
The Best of Category is awarded to an entry that stands out from all the others for its exceptional creativity and quality. These awards are selected from among all the Gold winners in each category. Recipients of Best of Category awards are presented gold medals.
A Gold Star is given to an entry that not only achieves its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill, but, in the opinion of the judges, does so in an exceptional way. A Silver Star is for an entry that achieves its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill. Gold and Silver Star Award recipients are presented certificates.
The Communications Department members recognized with Star Awards are Judy Everett Ramos and Carolyn Marcantel.
