Kindergarten Core Knowledge Sculpture Unit 5 Overview The student will recognize and identify an artwork as a sculpture. The student will recognize and identify an artwork as a mobile. The student will recognize and identify a totem pole as a sculpture. The student will recognize and identify the Statue of Liberty as a sculpture. The student will recognize and identify lines, colors, and forms in the selected artworks. The student will create a three dimensional form utilizing a pinching technique. The student will create a three dimensional form from paper, utilizing joining techniques such as: cutting, folding and gluing. The student will discuss the use of the elements of art and principles of design and how they are used in selected artworks that focus on symmetry and pattern. The student will discuss how balance can be asymmetrical or symmetrical and how to determine this, using a line of symmetry. The student will create an artwork that utilizes pattern and symmetry. The students will be exposed to the idea that art reflects the thoughts and beliefs of time period in which it is created. The students will become familiar with what a documentary is.
