Welcome to Sixth Grade Reading!

Reading is so much fun! I know not all students think so, so we will be exploring the world in print in many different ways. Each six weeks you can find posted here the specific concepts we will be discovering.

Students are expected to read EVERY night. As long as they are reading, I am not picky about what they read: Novels, "Skinny" books, graphic novels, or even magazines. Every moment they spend reading can only HELP in all other content areas.

40 BOOK CHALLENGE!

All students will be challenged to read at least 40 books, from a variety of genres. Progress will be posted and celebrated in the classroom. Completion of the challenge will earn the student a Homework Pass! Students may then continue on and participate in the Reading Marathon with our school librarian, Mrs. Moon, if they so choose. Please see the library page for more details.

Sixth Six Weeks Curriculum

Sixth Six weeks ALREADY? Where did the time go?

This six weeks were are looking at persuasive writing including commercials and propaganda techniques as well as the research process. Students will be researching two separate topics: a favorite author and a possible career choice.

Core Knowledge Phrases and sayings: "Tenderfoot.", "There's more than one way to skin a cat.", "Touche!", and "Truth is stranger than fiction."

I am very proud of your student and hope that you have witnessed a postive change in the way they look at Reading this year. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of their lives. Each one is a blessing.
