Wilshire's Nurse Teaches Healthy Habits in Ghana

This summer (2010), Wilshire Elementary School nurse, Shannon Voss, RN traveled to work with Touch A Life, a Ghanaian organization that has rescued over 80 kids from child labor on fishing boats. While working near Accra, Ghana's capital city, Shannon participated in much needed medical evaluations of the children and taught about health topics that HEB ISD nurses teach in many of our schools every year: basic first aid, good hygiene, dental care, and even a hand washing lesson with GloGerm. The group also provided first aid supplies, mosquito nets to help prevent malaria, and arranged for further medical testing. "Our time in Ghana was amazing", says Nurse Voss, "the children we worked with were so full of joy. We will continue to work with Touch A Life to rescue all the children off of Lake Volta, provide them a loving home, good medical care, and an education."
