5th graders at Bell Manor are using their knowledge of physical properties of matter and lab equipment to investigate properties of a bug. The students used their senses to make observations as well as used lab tools to measure properties such as length, mass, weight, volume, density, and others. Then the students let the bug “grow” for a few days. Finally, they took “after” measurements of the same physical properties and drew conclusions on why the numbers increased. The students enjoyed having a hands-on investigation to review for the STAAR test.
