Each year, 5th grade Wilshire students study the Renaissance as part of our Core Knowledge Curriculum. Students choose a historical figure from the Renaissance era, complete research on that person, and present their research to their peers through a written report and an oral presentation with visual aids. This activity also coincides with Wilshire Elementary’s Core Knowledge Character Parade, which takes place at the end of October. Wilshire’s 5th grade students dress up as their historical figure for this parade.
This year, the5th grade performed two Branle dances (Branle Simple and Branle Gai). Under the direction of Music teacher, Ms. Green, they also sang an old English canon called “Peace Canon”, Composer unknown, and a song in Latin called “Viva La Musica” composed by Micahel Praetorius (1571-1621). Afterwards they performed a Reader’s Theater version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
